In a legal development, two individuals, Rafiu Jamiu, 27, and Adeniyi Oluwaseun, 21, found themselves before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges related to theft and ass@ult.

The defendants, both of unknown addresses, are confronting a two-count charge that includes ste@ling and ass@ult. The allegations stem from an incident that occurred on December 4, around 09:00 pm, in Ijero-Ekiti.
According to ASP Caleb Leramo, the prosecutor in the case, the defendants, along with others at large, are accused of ste@ling an Infinix phone valued at N73,000, belonging to Miracle Samuel. Additionally, they allegedly stole a Tecno phone worth N50,000 and an Itel phone valued at N7,000, both belonging to Oladeji Christianah. The charges also include the ass@ult of Oladeji Christianah, Miracle Samuel, and Egunjobi Victoria.
The prosecutor cited violations of sections 302(1)(a) and 186 of the Cr#minal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, in connection with the offenses.

Requesting an adjournment, Leramo informed the court of his intention to study the case file thoroughly and present witnesses. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In defense, Mr. Gboyega Abiola, counsel to the defendants, sought bail, assuring the court that his clients would not evade it. Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
The case is scheduled for further hearing on January 12, 2024.
