Swift action by Kwara fire service averts disaster at Ilorin petrol station

In a commendable display of expertise, the Kwara State fire brigade successfully averted a potential disaster at Aasco Petrol station along the Ajase-Ipo highway in Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government of the state capital. The incident, which took place at approximately 17:57 hours, was skillfully managed by the firefighters, preventing the escalation of the situation.

Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the fire service in Ilorin, reported that upon arrival at the scene, the fire crew encountered a severe and rapidly spreading fire at the Aasco filling station. The firefighters swiftly initiated firefighting operations, containing and extinguishing the inferno before it could spread to other parts of the facility.

Despite the intensity of the disaster, the firefighters showcased their expertise, effectively controlling and extinguishing the fire through their knowledge and proficiency in firefighting techniques.

Investigations into the cause of the fire revealed that a spark from a Dyna truck with registration number LEM115XB ignited the flammable liquid, triggering the outbreak. The unfortunate incident resulted in significant damage to the Dyna truck and a bus. However, the coordinated response of the firemen, coupled with support from relevant authorities, prevented further potential damage to the facility and its surroundings.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, urged the public to prioritize safety, especially during this period, and emphasized the importance of promptly contacting the fire brigade in case of any fire emergency. The successful containment of the fire at Aasco Petrol station underscores the critical role played by skilled firefighters and the need for public vigilance in preventing and managing such incidents.
