Bisi Akande highlights key differences between APC and PDP

Bisi Akande, former Governor of Osun State and the inaugural interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has underscored the fundamental distinctions between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a recent interview on Channels TV, Akande emphasized that the two political parties are dissimilar due to their distinct historical backgrounds. According to him, the PDP originated from a military-influenced era, with leaders who were either military personnel reluctant to relinquish power or individuals closely associated with military contractors.

He stated, “Honestly, APC and PDP are not alike. They’re not alike because they’re coming from different backgrounds. The PDP is coming from the background of military incursion into governance.”

Contrastingly, Akande described the APC as emerging from a backdrop of opposition to those who inherited power from the military. The APC, he explained, evolved through discussions, opposition, examination, and a collaborative effort to scrutinize and improve governance.

“The APC came with the background of discussion, opposition, examination, reviewing and saying ‘okay let us come together and be in power…'” Akande noted.

Highlighting the challenges associated with military-oriented minds transitioning into civilian administration, Akande emphasized the need for constant debate and collective understanding in civil governance. He asserted that the military, rooted in obedience to orders without room for debate, brought a mentality of vandalism to civil administration.
