The release comes about a month after Justice Hamza Muazu granted Emefiele N300 million bail on November 22, 2023, with a condition that his sureties must possess landed properties in the Maitama District of Abuja. Justice Muazu had ordered Emefiele’s remand in prison until the bail conditions were fulfilled.
Emefiele faced charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Federal Government, alleging his involvement in a N1.2 billion procurement fraud.
It’s worth noting that news of Emefiele’s release coincides with revelations of financial fraud, as per the interim report of Jim Obazee, the special investigator probing the CBN.
This report is developing, more details will be shared on the SkiwordNews Telegram Channel as soon as possible.
