Okediji recounted on December 12 how NIS personnel stopped him for a search and demanded $40 as a settlement for traveling with an expired Nigerian passport. Despite complying, he later discovered that $500 was missing from his belongings. Additionally, he faced harassment and document seizure by police officers upon arriving at Mile 2, FESTAC axis of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Lagos.

In response to these allegations, Aridegbe Adedotun, the NIS spokesperson, announced that the agency would implement border changes to ensure smoother operations. Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller-General of NIS, conveyed the displeasure of the interior minister with the reported unprofessional activities at the Seme border. Adepoju assured the public that immediate steps were being taken to investigate the matter thoroughly, and if the allegations were proven true, the implicated officials would face severe consequences.
