Osun Governor affirms Nollywood’s role in boosting economy

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has lauded Nollywood, citing it as a key player in enhancing Nigeria’s economy. During a meeting with top Nollywood personalities in Ede, Governor Adeleke expressed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to position Osun as a global tourist destination.

In the aftermath of hosting the 2023 BON awards, the governor outlined plans for the creative industry, including hosting global events, establishing an entertainment village, upgrading tourist sites, supporting Osun as a film location, and developing a cluster industry for the craft sub-sector.

Governor Adeleke emphasized leveraging the influence of global music stars like Davido and B-Red to organize international concerts and promote an annual global Yoruba Heritage week. These initiatives aim to attract tourists from South America, Europe, and North America.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, the governor stated that Osun’s focus on improving roads, healthcare, worker satisfaction, water access, school facilities, and security aims to attract investors and foster growth in the creative industry.

Governor Adeleke affirmed Osun’s commitment to becoming a cultural and creative hub, leveraging its status as the cradle of the Yoruba nation and custodian of Yoruba cultural assets. He pledged support to the entertainment sector, recognizing its significant economic impact and hinted at future partnership meetings to further collaboration.
