Cross River State Government implements vehicle ban as Calabar carnival reaches climax

As the Carnival Calabar reaches its peak on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the Cross River State Government has implemented restrictions on vehicular movement along major carnival routes in Calabar, the state capital.

In an official statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Emma Ogbeche, the motoring public has been informed that only vehicles with duly signed permits by the State Security Adviser will be allowed into the city.

To prevent a recurrence of multiple accidents witnessed last year, the statement emphasized that no vehicles, except ambulances, are permitted to accompany the bikes during the Biker’s Carnival.

In order to ensure safety and compliance, members of the public are urged to follow guidelines and obey directives from security agents and carnival officials. The state government has emphasized that any violation of these directives will result in stiff sanctions.

Cultural day, which took place yesterday, featured local government and cultural groups showcasing traditional dances. Cultural troupes from every geopolitical zone in Nigeria and the 18 local government areas of Cross River State participated in the vibrant cultural parade.

The Children’s carnival segment is scheduled for Wednesday, leading up to the main carnival display on Thursday. This grand event will include contingents from the Republic of Cameroon and representatives from 22 states across the federation.
