Governor Bago assured Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkindaji that the oversight function of the legislature would remain intact and not be compromised. He also revealed plans for the completion of legislative quarters at the Three Arms Zone within the next three months for improved accommodation.

In a stern warning, Governor Bago stated that heads of MDAs who fail to present themselves for scrutiny and status inquiries before the legislature would face dismissal. He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, stating, “For the government to do well, somebody must criticize and scrutinize the activities of the government. We should leave our books open in the spirit of accountability.”

Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji acknowledged that the appropriation bill saw an increase of N720 million to address critical areas of need in alignment with the “New Niger” agenda. He credited the quick passage of the budget to the Planning Commission’s effective preparation and expressed gratitude to Governor Bago for unwavering support to the legislature.

Recalling Governor Bago’s presentation of the appropriation bill on December 19, 2023, Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji had previously assured that the House would work diligently to pass the budget on or before December 27, 2023.
