Oluwo mourns Akeredolu, hails him as a Yoruba Icon

The passing of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been lamented by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, who referred to him as a Yoruba colossus. Oba Akanbi expressed his deep condolences, considering Akeredolu’s death a significant loss to his family, the people of Ondo State, and the entire Yoruba race.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, Oba Akanbi acknowledged the critical role played by Akeredolu in securing Yorubaland. Describing the late governor as a nationalist and a champion, the Osun monarch asserted that Akeredolu’s contributions would be etched in history, ensuring that he is not forgotten.

The statement, issued on Wednesday, conveyed the Oluwo’s sympathy, stating, “The demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State was a colossal loss, not only to his immediate family but also to the good people of Ondo and the Yoruba race by extension.”

Expressing condolences to Akeredolu’s wife, immediate family, and the people of Ondo State, Oba Akanbi emphasized the significant role the late governor played in safeguarding Yorubaland. He hailed Akeredolu as a nationalist and a champion, noting that history would remember him kindly.

“The role he played in securing Yorubaland cannot be forgotten. He was a nationalist. You are a champion. History will continue to be kind to you. May your souls continue to rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
