Asisat Oshoala receives warm welcome from President Tinubu and First Lady in Lagos

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu extended a warm welcome to Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons striker and six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year, at an event held in Lagos on Thursday.

The reception followed Oshoala’s recent achievement as the best African female footballer of the year. President Tinubu and the First Lady congratulated her for making notable contributions to women’s football on the continent and praised her for the well-deserved recognition.

President Tinubu expressed pride in the achievements of Nigerian women across various fields, emphasizing that the accomplishments in football mirrored the excellence, tenacity, ingenuity, and resilience inherent in the Nigerian character.

Highlighting the successes of other Nigerian women such as star sprinter Tobi Amusan, media mogul Ms. Mo Abudu, and WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Forbes’ ‘2023 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’ list, President Tinubu and the First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation’s continuous support for her and other Nigerian women excelling in diverse areas.

Following the reception, Oshoala expressed her gratitude, stating, ”I want to appreciate the President and the First Lady for giving me the opportunity to present the award to them. During the last World Cup, we had a couple of issues, and they intervened and have been very supportive to the girls, even after the competition.”
