The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced an extension of the deadline for filing annual returns, pushing the penalty commencement date from January 1, 2024, to April 1, 2024. The decision was made in response to glitches on the Company Registration Portal (CRP) and appeals from the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector.

In a statement by Mr Dominic Inyang, the Director of Press at CAC, it was clarified that this extension provides an opportunity for registered entities, including companies, limited liability partnerships, limited partnerships, business names, and incorporated trustees, to comply with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and the Companies Regulations 2021.

Entities are encouraged to use this additional time to file their annual returns with the commission. However, it’s essential to note that the extension does not impact striking-off proceedings initiated by the commission before the November 2 notice. Companies, directors, and officers are reminded that the commission will proceed against those associated with struck-off companies to recover outstanding penalties.

This report is developing, more details will be shared on the SkiwordNews Telegram Channel as soon as possible.
