APC gears up for Ebonyi South by-election as screening process concludes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to choose its candidate for the upcoming Ebonyi South Senatorial District by-election scheduled for February 3, 2024. The vacancy in the senatorial seat arose from Senator Dave Umahi’s resignation after his appointment as the Minister of Works by Bola Tinubu.

The APC Committee from the National Secretariat has conducted the screening process, with Professor Anthony Okorie Ani emerging as the sole candidate to be considered in the primary election. Among the two aspirants who purchased forms for the primary, only Professor Ani completed and returned the required documents for screening.

Smart Iheazor, Chairman of the screening/special congress committee, addressed reporters in Abakaliki, emphasizing that Princess Ann Agom-Eze, the second aspirant, neither returned her form nor participated in the screening process.

“I am the Chairman of the screening/special congress committee of Ebonyi State by-election for the Ebonyi South senatorial seat. On Thursday, we came into Abakaliki and we commenced action immediately on our assignment,” Iheazor stated.

He continued, “Two persons purchased forms, and out of the two, only one person returned the completed forms. The second person did not return her forms and also did not show up for the screening despite radio and other media announcements to that effect.”

With Professor Ani successfully screened and cleared to run for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District seat, the APC is gearing up for the primary election to determine the party’s candidate for the bye-election. The absence of Princess Ann Agom-Eze from both the screening and form submission processes leaves Ani as the sole contender for the party’s ticket in the upcoming election.
