The Enugu State Government has refuted claims of intending to institute caretaker committees in the state’s 17 local government councils. Mr. Aka Eze-Aka, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, addressed the issue during an interview with newsmen in Enugu, dismissing the circulating rumors and urging politicians to exercise patience.

Eze-Aka expressed disappointment at the rumors, describing them as unfounded and potentially destabilizing to the state. He emphasized the need for patience and cautioned against the spread of baseless information that could create unnecessary tension.

“It is just a build-up of anxiety, and I think the people should have patience. If the election is not going to hold, it will be made known. Some people who want to contest the election are becoming too anxious and desperate,” he stated.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) had previously released the election timetable, setting the date for February 24, 2024. Despite this, doubts emerged regarding the election’s viability, with skeptics pointing to a perceived lack of preparation by the Commission.
The current council chairmen’s tenure is set to expire in March, adding to the urgency and speculation surrounding the electoral process.
