PSG Chief Criticizes Messi for Post-Departure Comments

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the chairman of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has voiced his disapproval of Lionel Messi’s remarks, accusing the Argentine superstar of lacking “respect” for the club after his departure in June 2023.

Messi had previously expressed resentment in September, stating his disappointment that PSG did not acknowledge his contributions following his heroic performance in the 2022 World Cup. Al-Khelaifi, in response to Messi’s comments, emphasized that while he doesn’t perceive Messi as a bad person, he disapproves of discussing such matters after players have left the club.

In an interview with RMC Sport, Al-Khelaifi stated, “He’s not a bad guy, but I don’t like it. I’ll say, not just for him but for everyone, we talk when we’re there, not when we’re gone. That’s not our style… I have great respect for him [Messi], but if someone wants to speak badly about Paris Saint-Germain afterwards, that’s not good. That’s not respect.”

Messi’s notable achievements during the 2022 World Cup included scoring a crucial brace in the final against France in Qatar and converting a penalty in the shootout, ultimately leading Argentina to a 4-2 victory on penalties.
