The Rivers State House of Assembly has announced its intention to re-screen and re-confirm nine former Commissioners who recently resigned from the state executive council. This decision was conveyed in a statement issued by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Emeka Amadi, on Monday in Port Harcourt.

The list of commissioners slated for re-screening includes Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), who served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Des George-Kelly (Commissioner for Works), Emeka Woke (Commissioner for Special Duties), Mrs. Inime Aguma (Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation), Isaac Kamalu (Commissioner for Finance), Prof. Chinedu Mmom (Commissioner for Education), Dr. Gift Worlu (Commissioner for Housing), Dr. Jacobson Nbina (Commissioner for Transport), and Austin Ben-Chioma (Commissioner for Environment).

The commissioners are required to submit 40 sets of their Curriculum Vitae along with photocopies and original copies of their credentials to the State House of Assembly at the Legislative Quarters for the screening process.

 

The wave of resignations occurred on December 16, 2023, amidst a political crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The reappointment of the former commissioners is one of the stipulations outlined in President Tinubu’s peace agreement with Governor Fubara.
