Governor Makinde Highlights Daily Power Challenges to Minister Adelabu During Visit

During a meeting in his office on Monday with Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State emphasized the daily struggles Nigerians face with power outages, as an unexpected outage occurred during the minister’s visit.

Adelabu, an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State, embarked on a nationwide tour of power facilities, choosing to begin with his home state. The power outage incident served as a poignant moment during the minister’s speech.

Governor Makinde acknowledged the prevalent issue of power outages and expressed optimism about improving the electricity situation in the country. He emphasized the significance of the Electricity Act 2023 as a game-changer for Oyo State and mentioned plans to sign the state’s version of the law, which has already been passed by the House of Assembly.

“We don’t see division and politics when it comes to the issue of governance and ensuring that we provide good living conditions for our people. If it is the Federal Government that assists us in getting anything, we are ready to work together,” Makinde stated.

Highlighting Oyo State’s collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency of the Federal Government, Makinde emphasized the potential for achieving more, considering the state’s largest landmass in the entire South-West.

The governor’s remarks underscored the shared commitment to addressing power challenges and leveraging the new electricity law to enhance the energy landscape in Oyo State.
