NANS Urges Swift Action: Calls for State of Emergency on Security Crisis

Amidst the escalating incidents of kidn@pping and banditry in various parts of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) is advocating for the declaration of a state of emergency on the country’s security situation. In a statement released on Friday, the Clerk of the student’s Senate body, Oladimeji Uthman, expressed grave concern about the worsening security crisis, particularly in the Northern region and other zones.

Highlighting recent distressing events, including the abduction of a 400-level student at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the tr@gic k#lling of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, Uthman emphasized the urgency for decisive action. The call for a state of emergency specifically targets the affected areas, with a primary focus on the North.

Uthman explained, “This call for a state of emergency is driven by the audacity and frequency of criminal activities, which pose a severe threat to the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.” He stressed that such a declaration would empower the government with enhanced tools to comprehensively address the security threats.

NANS proposes collaborative efforts between security agencies and local communities, intensified intelligence operations, and dedicated resource allocation to empower law enforcement agencies. While acknowledging the government’s ongoing efforts, NANS believes that the gravity of the situation necessitates additional measures for a swift and comprehensive response.

Expressing gratitude for the government’s attention to the matter, Uthman trusts that all necessary steps, including the declaration of a state of emergency, will be taken to effectively tackle the current security challenges facing the nation. He concluded, “A decisive response will not only reassure citizens but also send a clear message to criminal elements that their actions will not be tolerated.”
