Aisha Yesufu Condemns Supreme Court Ruling on Nasarawa Election as a Blow to Democracy

Prominent socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has expressed strong disapproval of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the governorship election in Nasarawa State.

The Supreme Court, in a verdict on Friday, upheld the election of Governor Sule Abdullahi in Nasarawa State, dismissing the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Emmanuel David Ombugadu.

The court justified its decision by asserting that the allegations presented in the petition lacked substantiation.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, delivering a unanimous lead judgment, remarked that the PDP and Ombugadu’s petition lacked probative value.

Reacting to the judgment, Aisha Yesufu characterized the ruling as a robbery and decried it as a coup against the people of Nasarawa State. In her statement on social media, she expressed sorrow over what she perceived as another bleak day for democracy in Nigeria, asserting that the people’s choice was denied, undermining their mandate.
