Fani-Kayode sounds alarm, accuses Gumi of stirring religious and ethnic tensions in Nigeria

Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, has raised concerns over the actions of Islamic scholar Ahmad Gumi, alleging that Gumi is attempting to provoke religious and ethnic strife within Nigeria. Fani-Kayode has called for caution to be exercised, fearing the potential consequences of such actions.

Gumi recently expressed that it would not be wise to entrust the responsibility of securing Nigeria to Christians, making these comments in the context of demands for President Bola Tinubu’s potential second term in office.

The controversy escalated when Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, held discussions with an Israeli envoy in Abuja regarding security matters.

Ahmad Gumi reacted to this meeting with a demand for Wike’s removal, stating that Wike planned to transform Abuja into Tel Aviv. This has triggered concerns about religious and ethnic tensions within the nation.

Fani-Kayode, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called upon the Federal Government to intervene and caution Gumi for his remarks. In a comprehensive two-and-a-half-page article released on Sunday, he voiced his unease about the potential consequences of Gumi’s actions, pointing to the necessity for immediate action to prevent a dangerous religious and ethnic war.
