Court grants Godwin Emefiele extension until January 25 to address $53 million debt

A Federal High Court in Abuja has extended the deadline for former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to appear in court and provide an explanation regarding a $53 million judgment debt related to the Paris Club refund. The court gave Emefiele until January 25 to appear in person, or else an arrest warrant will be issued. Emefiele’s counsel explained that they had made efforts to secure his release but were unsuccessful. The court insisted that Emefiele must appear on the next adjourned day. The matter is scheduled to be revisited in January 2023.
