Wike emphasizes the importance of his political base

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has asserted that he relies on his political base to maintain political relevance. He stressed that once a politician loses their base, they lose their political significance.

During a meeting with South-South leaders in his Abuja office on Tuesday, Wike stated that he is not concerned about the various criticisms directed at him. He firmly believes that the right actions must be taken to safeguard his political structure.

Wike explained, “All of us want to be politically relevant; all of us want to maintain our political structure. Is it not your political structure? Will you allow anybody to just cut you out immediately? Everybody has a base. If you take my base, am I not politically irrelevant?”

There has been speculation of a strained relationship between Wike and the current Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara. This discord has led some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who are loyal to Wike, to attempt to impeach Fubara.
