Pochettino responds to Shearer’s critique of Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea

Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has addressed the criticism of Nicolas Jackson by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer and revealed the only challenge the young striker is facing at the club.

Since joining Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer, Nicolas Jackson has scored just two goals in the Premier League this season. In his nine Premier League appearances, he has missed several significant opportunities.

After Chelsea’s recent 2-0 defeat to Brentford, Shearer offered his analysis, pointing out that the Senegalese striker lacks movement and seems unsure on the field.

Pochettino acknowledged that he had seen Shearer’s analysis and referred to it as “dangerous.” He defended Jackson, explaining that the only issue the young player faces is the need for more time to adapt at Chelsea.

Pochettino stated, “I think that Nico, if you watch the game against Liverpool or Dortmund in pre-season, or Luton, he was doing what the analysis was about and what we expect. But under different circumstances, Nico is not at his best today. For different circumstances, but we need to recover the player that was.”

He continued, emphasizing the potential dangers of such analysis, especially after just one game, “It is really dangerous, this type of analysis, because it is one game. I cannot lie, it wasn’t his best, but we need to be fair. If you watch Luton, if you watch Dortmund in pre-season, if you watch Liverpool, you will see this is one player. The Brentford game was another player. I agree with the analysis, but it is not fair to say he is not capable of doing what we expect of him.”

Pochettino expressed his belief in Jackson’s abilities and highlighted that the only challenge the young player faces is time, particularly given the situation he encountered upon arriving at Chelsea.
