Zamfara State suspends operational licenses for private schools

The Zamfara State government has taken the decision to suspend the operational licenses of all private schools within the state. This announcement was made by the Commissioner of Education, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, during a press briefing held in his office in Gusau, the state capital.

The primary reason behind this suspension of licenses is the need to address the status of private schools in Zamfara. Of the 761 private schools identified within the state, only 450 possess licenses. Additionally, some of these licenses have either expired, or the schools have been operating beyond the capacity specified in their licenses, while others are located in unfavorable environments.

Furthermore, the commissioner emphasized that over 300 schools are operating without the proper licenses. This situation raises concerns regarding the quality of education being provided and underscores the necessity for government intervention.

Madawaki went on to explain that the state government has developed a comprehensive strategy to regulate private school activities to ensure that they offer quality education. This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize the state’s education sector.

The commissioner highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the education system and enhancing the overall performance of students through various intervention programs. He also stressed that teachers in the state will receive training and retraining, as well as timely promotions and payment of allowances and salaries, to boost their morale and, in turn, improve the quality of education.
