Labour Party’s Thaddeus Atta declared winner in Eti Osa Federal Constituency election by Appeal Court

In a recent development, the Appeal Court has upheld the victory of Thaddeus Atta, the Labour Party candidate, as the duly elected House of Representatives member representing Eti Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State.

This decision comes after the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, which had previously declared the election inconclusive in September, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where voting had not taken place.

However, the Appeal Court, in its judgment on Tuesday, reversed the tribunal’s directive and declared that the elections were conclusive.

This legal battle involved several prominent candidates, including Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and was declared the runner-up in the February 2023 election. Also in the running was Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
