Music executive Abisoye, popularly known as ‘Cash ‘N’ Out,’ has come forward to defend the contract signed by late Nigerian rapper, Mohbad, with his former record label, Marlian Music. This statement comes after the controversial death of the artist on September 12, 2023, and the subsequent criticisms regarding his treatment by Marlian Music and label boss Naira Marley after his departure from the label in 2022.

When Mohbad left Marlian Music, he cited the non-fulfillment of the contract terms that were initially signed in 2019 when he joined the record label. He also accused the label of failing to pay him the royalties for his monetized intellectual content and advances, which had been mutually agreed upon. The artist’s lawyer, O.M Falade, communicated these grievances in a letter dated October 25, 2022.
In a recent interview with Arise TV, Abisoye revealed that he had the opportunity to review the contract that Mohbad had signed with Marlian Music and expressed his belief that it was a “fair” contract. According to Abisoye, the contract represented a joint venture between the artist and the record label. However, he acknowledged that the agreement did not unfold as Mohbad had initially expected.
Abisoye stated, “By right, I might not be able to speak about Mohbad’s contract with Marlian Music like that here. But because I’ve seen it before, I would say it was a fair one. In his defense, me and him [Mohbad] always talk about that contract. That contract was a joint venture. It means he comes to the table as whoever he is, and the label comes to the table, and they put two together, and they make something which is a beautiful arrangement but somehow it didn’t just go the way he thought it would go. And like I said, I won’t be able to speak more on that.”
