PDP raises concerns over Nigeria’s democratic erosion, alleges cabal’s influence

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concerns, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of pushing Nigeria toward totalitarianism and anarchy. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP spokesperson, pointed fingers at a presumed cabal within the Presidency, alleging efforts to control the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary, thereby jeopardizing the democratic fabric of the nation.

Ologunagba raised an alarm regarding conflicting court judgments and the purported manipulation of election results. In a statement, he called on the international community to be vigilant and take note of these actions.

The spokesperson stated, “The PDP alerts Nigerians and the International Community that the nation is dangerously sliding into totalitarianism and anarchy under the brazenly repressive and anti-people All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.”

He further highlighted the party’s concerns about attempts to weaken democratic institutions, especially INEC and the judiciary, aiming to establish a one-party state in Nigeria. Ologunagba emphasized that this alleged anti-democratic scenario is evident not only in election manipulations but also in conflicting judgments by electoral Courts.

The statement pointed out the troubling nature of contradictory judgments that seem to target the PDP, resulting in elections won by PDP candidates being overturned in favor of APC candidates. These actions, according to Ologunagba, run counter to the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act of 2022, and INEC’s Guidelines and Regulations for elections.
