Tragedy strikes as student drowns in Umuchime River, Abia

In a heartbreaking incident, Chidera Keneth, a young man believed to be a student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, lost his life in a drowning accident in Umuchime River in Umuahia. The tragic event occurred over the weekend when Chidera, the only male child of his parents, was attempting to ‘cool off’ during a hot afternoon by joining some friends for a swimming expedition.

Sources reveal that Chidera, unfamiliar with the tide and depth of the river, jumped in to swim, leading to the unfortunate incident. Hailing from Uzuakoli in Bende LGA of the State, he met a fatal end in the river.

While the State Police Command and Abia State Polytechnic authorities are yet to officially confirm the student’s demise, his lifeless body has been recovered from the river. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of caution and awareness when engaging in water-related activities, especially in unfamiliar environments.
