Mayorkun sets the record straight on relationship with Davido: ‘We’re Cool’

Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, widely known as Mayorkun, has addressed misconceptions surrounding his relationship with former record label boss Davido since his departure from Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh (Taymesan), the ‘Mayor Of Lagos’ artist revealed that contrary to public belief, he and Davido share “one of the best relationships.”

Mayorkun clarified that the reason some fans may think otherwise is that he doesn’t frequently showcase his bond with Davido on social media. He stated, “It’s just that I’m not posting Davido every day, saying he’s my best friend, that’s why some people think we are not cool. The relationship is not for you [fans]. You always forget that.”

Recalling his journey to fame, Mayorkun highlighted how he caught Davido’s attention in 2016 with a cover of Davido’s ‘The Money’ on X (formerly Twitter). This led to his discovery by the acclaimed singer, who subsequently signed him to DMW. Mayorkun’s debut single, ‘Eleko,’ catapulted him to instant stardom, and he later clinched the prestigious Next Rated category at The Headies in 2018.

In 2021, Mayorkun amicably parted ways with DMW, marking a new chapter in his flourishing career.
