Roy Keane supports Manchester United’s decision to part ways with David de Gea

Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, has expressed his backing for the club’s decision to let go of goalkeeper David de Gea during the summer transfer window. Keane’s assertion is based on his belief that De Gea had been making a significant number of errors that led to the club’s choice to release him.

In addition to discussing De Gea, Keane also expressed his concerns regarding the performance of De Gea’s replacement, Andre Onana, during the current season. He believes that Onana has made a series of mistakes in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

During an episode of the Stick To Football podcast, Keane humorously said, “No, I would have kept him [David de Gea]. Huge mistake letting him go. Can we not get him back? He’s on a free. No, he had to go. He was making too many mistakes.”

As for Onana, Keane added, “Oh, not great. Obviously a really poor start. We talk about positions at any big club, goalkeeper at Manchester United is huge. David made mistakes, but he’s (Onana) already made six or seven big mistakes that have led to goals.”

De Gea is currently a free agent and recently returned to the UK, where he is spending time sorting out his house in Hale, where he lived during his 12-year tenure with Manchester United. Following his departure from the club in June, he has relocated to the family home in Madrid, where he resides with his partner Edurne Garcia and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Yanay.
