Mourinho eyes January move for Arsenal’s Kiwior to boost Roma’s defense

AS Roma’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly pushing for the acquisition of Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior in the upcoming January transfer window. Mourinho aims to strengthen Roma’s defense for the latter part of the season and has identified Kiwior as a potential addition to his backline.

As per reports from the Italian publication Romagiallorossa, Mourinho’s team is considering signing either Jakub Kiwior or Tottenham’s Eric Dier in the January transfer window.

Kiwior, who joined Arsenal from Spezia Calcio in January for a €25 million fee, has faced challenges securing regular playing time. As the backup to the first-choice left centre-back Gabriel, the 23-year-old has made only four Premier League appearances in the current season.

Despite his limited playing time, Kiwior has accumulated 16 appearances across all competitions, contributing with a goal but no assists. Roma’s interest in the Arsenal defender is intensified by the absence of Evan Ndicka, who will be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ivory Coast in January.

Mourinho’s pursuit of Kiwior reflects Roma’s strategy to secure a cost-effective signing to address defensive needs during Ndicka’s absence. The January transfer window presents an opportunity for Roma to fortify their squad for the challenges ahead in the Serie A campaign.
