Nigerian government to include families of fallen heroes in conditional cash transfer scheme

The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed its intentions to incorporate families of fallen soldiers and members of the Nigerian Legion into its Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme. Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, made this announcement during her visit to the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.

Dr. Edu emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to support vulnerable ex-servicemen, widows, and the dependents of fallen heroes. To achieve this, she requested accurate data on the families of ex-servicemen affected by these circumstances to include them in the ongoing verification of the national social register.

She further noted that the president had given directives to expand the national social register to encompass these vulnerable groups, ensuring they can access various social intervention programs. This approach adheres to Mr. President’s agenda, emphasizing the importance of supporting the families of deceased servicemen.

Dr. Edu also announced the introduction of the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP) designed to assist small-scale businesses across the country. In conclusion, she appealed to the Ministry to provide adequate security coverage for humanitarian workers when conducting fieldwork.
