Ladi Adebutu, the PDP candidate, had initially approached the tribunal, challenging the outcome of the March 18 governorship election that saw Abiodun emerge victorious. Alleging non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, Adebutu contended that the election was marred by irregularities and corrupt practices, resulting in the disenfranchisement of over 40,000 voters due to violence. He sought the nullification of the election and a declaration of himself as the winner.

However, the tribunal led by Hamidu Kunaza dismissed Adebutu’s petition, deeming it lacking in merit. Undeterred, Adebutu escalated the matter to the Appeal Court, seeking redress and requesting that the tribunal’s judgment be set aside.

In response, members of both the APC and PDP have shifted their focus to Lagos State, leaving Ogun State to witness the court proceedings scheduled to commence at 9 am at the Court of Appeal in Igbosere, Lagos. The impending ruling adds to the political suspense in Ogun State as the legal battle continues to unfold.
