Gbajabiamila announces direct access system for students loans starting January

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has revealed groundbreaking changes to the Students’ Loan Application system, ensuring a direct connection between administrators and beneficiaries without any middleman involvement.

Addressing the audience during the 35th convocation ceremony of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos on Friday, Gbajabiamila announced that the revamped system aims to kick off in January 2024, providing Nigerian students with a streamlined process to secure loans for their educational pursuits.

Emphasizing the simplicity of the process, Gbajabiamila stated, “Applicants will apply online, undergo verification online, and receive credits based on the authenticity of the documents and credentials they submit.”

He further highlighted the meritocratic nature of the system, stating, “Nobody will need to know anybody to qualify for these loans so that access to this financing will be genuinely egalitarian.”

The recent signing of the Student Loan Bill into law by President Tinubu marked a significant step in ensuring that no student faces the risk of dropping out of tertiary institutions due to financial constraints. Tinubu, expressing commitment to education, assured that his administration would provide the necessary resources for educational institutions to fulfill their responsibilities. The innovative approach to student loans signals a positive shift towards inclusivity and equal access to educational financing.
