FCTA dismisses false demolition claims regarding Lobito Plaza

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has refuted recent claims circulating on TikTok through a social media video suggesting the demolition of a plaza on Lobito Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.

According to the FCTA, the video is a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and create unnecessary panic among residents. The administration clarified that the video, allegedly recorded in 2021, does not depict the demolition of the mentioned building. Instead, the Department of Development Control identified an infraction related to the building’s use.

In a statement signed by Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press at the Office of the FCT Minister, it was emphasized that rather than demolition, corrective measures were taken to address the issue responsibly. The statement highlighted that the contravening portion was removed to ensure compliance with regulations.

To provide further clarification, the FCTA attached a current photo of the building, taken recently, demonstrating that it remains standing. The administration underscored its commitment to enforcing regulations while prioritizing the well-being and safety of residents.

The FCTA strongly condemned the deliberate spread of false information, emphasizing its detrimental impact on trust and security in communities. The statement expressed concern about the ethnic coloration attached to the misleading videos, stating that such mischief is counterproductive and fosters unnecessary fear and disaffection.

The administration urged the promoters of misinformation to desist from such actions, emphasizing its commitment to transparent communication and responsible governance. Residents were encouraged to verify information from reliable sources before spreading it further.
