Kano APC Chieftain emphasizes broader aspects of election victory

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, asserts that achieving electoral success in Nigeria goes beyond the mere act of casting ballots. The former majority leader of the House of Representatives shared his perspective on the Kano State Gubernatorial elections in an interview with Channels TV, addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the polls.

According to Doguwa, winning elections in a democratic setting like Nigeria involves considering various factors, including adherence to rules and regulations outlined in the electoral act and the constitution. He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law in the electoral process.

“In a democratic setting like ours, several things, including rules and regulations, are considered before a winner is declared. Winning elections can be contested under the laid-down rules and regulations as provided in the electoral act and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Doguwa stated.

He highlighted that free and fair elections extend beyond the counting of ballots, emphasizing the need to abide by the prescribed rules to ensure a legitimate and fair electoral outcome.

The Kano State Gubernatorial elections faced controversy when Abba Yusuf of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) was initially declared the winner on March 18. However, both the election tribunal and the Appeal Court nullified the results, citing the governor’s alleged disqualification to run for the poll.
