Peter Obi calls for collective action against corruption and criminality in government

In a passionate address, Mr. Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the recent general elections, has implored Nigerian youths to stand resilient and collaborate in dismantling the pervasive criminality and corruption that afflict various tiers of government.

Obi, delivering a keynote speech at a program titled “Accelerate Actions to Achieve the SDGs in Nigeria Through Entrepreneurship and Civic Engagement” in Enugu State, emphasized the need for youths to confront the challenges of bad governance boldly. He urged them to vocalize their demands for good governance and not succumb to the adversities prevalent in the nation.

Highlighting the historical context, Obi drew attention to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as successors to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), noting Nigeria’s lack of achievement in the MDGs from 2000 to 2015. He underscored the importance of integrating SDGs into the government’s development agenda, citing successful examples in other nations like China, India, and Vietnam.

Encouraging a proactive approach, Obi urged the youth to embrace entrepreneurship despite the country’s challenges. He stressed that fostering a robust small business sector through entrepreneurship is pivotal for catalyzing the economy, enhancing productivity, and transitioning from a consumption-oriented to a production-focused nation.

In a resolute call to action, Obi reminded the youths that Nigeria belongs to them. He urged them not to shrink in the face of existing challenges but to collectively persevere and collaborate in dismantling the deep-seated criminality and corruption within various levels of government.
