AY reflects on 25 years in the industry, from campus promoter to Alibaba’s PA

Renowned comedian Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY, recently shared insights into his 25-year journey in the entertainment industry during the latest episode of the TokeMoments podcast hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa.

AY revealed that his path to stardom was far from sudden, highlighting his early career as a show promoter. He initiated his journey by organizing a campus beauty pageant at Delta State University, Abraka, his alma mater. Beyond merely organizing events, AY played a pivotal role in producing candidates for the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, with some even representing the nation at Miss World.

His involvement expanded further as he took on the role of Assistant Pageant Manager for Miss Commonwealth, gaining valuable experience in the intricacies of beauty pageants.

AY reminisced about his time as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the legendary comedian Alibaba, expressing his aspirations to achieve the same level of fame. “I was working with the king of comedy, Alibaba, as his personal assistant, and we used to travel everywhere,” AY shared. At airports, he witnessed people eager to take pictures with Alibaba, fostering a desire for recognition and success. AY acknowledged that at that point, fame wasn’t a certainty, but he had prayed for it and coupled his aspirations with relentless hard work.
