The All Progressives Congress (APC) Legal Team has raised allegations of unethical conduct against the 200 lawyers representing the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). These lawyers had recently convened a press conference in Kaduna, asserting a miscarriage of justice in the Appeal Court’s judgement against Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In response to this, the APC Legal Team, speaking to reporters in Kano, expressed concern that the actions of the NNPP lawyers were in violation of legal principles and the concept of justice.

Hadiza Nasir Ahmad, the Secretary of the APC Legal Team, and Chairman Mustapha Idiris emphasized that attempting to tarnish the image of the court or engage in blackmail is unequivocally unacceptable. They urged the NNPP lawyers to refrain from political maneuvers and allow the court to carry out its duties without external interference.

Barrister Hadiza Nasir Ahmad highlighted the role of lawyers as guardians of justice, urging them to uphold the integrity of the legal profession even in the face of unfavorable judgements. She stated, “We should collectively champion the rules of law and uphold the dignified essence of the legal system.”

Expressing concern, the APC legal team noted alleged efforts by NNPP, its lawyers, and supporters to actively campaign for a demonstration protesting court decisions. They suggested that these actions might be intended to create chaos and intimidate the court and judiciary into favoring their stance.

Despite these concerns, the APC Legal Team expressed confidence in the court’s commitment to impartially handle the case based solely on its merits. They commended the people of Kano for their law-abiding nature and for resisting unnecessary protests on the streets.
