Atiku’s Aide calls on Tinubu, Shettima, and National Assembly to tackle Nigerian workers’ migration

Daniel Bwala, a media aide to Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has urged President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the National Assembly to address the escalating issue of Nigerian workers migrating abroad.

Expressing concern, Bwala highlighted the mass migration of university staff and medical practitioners, attributing the exodus to poor working conditions, unpaid salaries, and other challenges. He emphasized that the frustration arising from the dire conditions is prompting qualified professionals to leave their jobs and seek opportunities abroad.

Taking to X platform, Bwala disclosed, “Frustration and mass resignation hitting public universities due to japa-risation. The reasons advanced are ‘poor and delayed salaries, unpaid allowances, poor infrastructure and lack of respect for the academic community.'”

He further noted the impact on hospitals, citing a shortage of staff as doctors and nurses opt to migrate to countries like the UAE, Canada, the US, and the UK. Bwala underscored the urgency of addressing this trend, stating that it has critical implications for national security.

Highlighting the historical trend in the private sector, Bwala called for immediate attention to the issue in the public sector. The message was directed to key figures such as President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the National Assembly, urging them to treat the matter as an emergency.

The call emphasizes the need for swift action to address the root causes of migration and retain skilled professionals within the country.
