Kebbi Governor vows regular allowances to retain healthcare workers

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has committed to ensuring the consistent payment of allowances for healthcare workers in the state as part of efforts to retain skilled medical professionals. The announcement, detailed in a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris on Monday, aims to address the challenges of medical personnel leaving state hospitals.

Governor Idris made this commitment during a dinner held in honor of 13 indigenous medical doctors who recently graduated from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health sector, acknowledging its pivotal role in preserving human lives.

“I will do my best to increase doctors’ and other medical staff allowances so that the gap in allowances between the state and the federal government is filled to enable them to stay at home and work for their people.”

The governor underscored the administration’s dedication to supporting medical students by announcing an increase in scholarship allowances from N30,000 to N50,000, aimed at facilitating their academic pursuits.

In addition to addressing allowances, Governor Idris pledged to construct standard hospitals across the four emirates in the state. This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of healthcare facilities, ultimately alleviating the suffering of citizens grappling with various illnesses.

Health Commissioner Alhassan Yauri commended the governor for organizing the reception for the graduating medical doctors, highlighting it as a historic event in the history of Kebbi State. The governor’s commitment reflects a proactive approach to healthcare retention and development in the state.
