During the event, Professor Kaletapwa highlighted that the SEC had been directed to actively participate in the street cleaning initiative, emphasizing the government’s commitment to regular evacuation of refuse and maintaining a clean city. She appealed for broader public involvement in environmental sanitation to support the drive for a cleaner state.
The street cleaning campaign is a collaborative effort between the state government and the non-governmental organization (NGO) Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes. The partnership aims to address environmental challenges and enhance the overall cleanliness of the state.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Deputy Governor had directed the cleaning of refuse dumps, emphasizing the removal of illegal posters, refuse dumps, and illegal billboards. These measures were implemented to reinforce monthly sanitation exercises and address hazards caused by unregulated structures.

While the cleaning exercise has been actively pursued by government officials, it has not yet been made mandatory for the general public. The Deputy Governor stressed the importance of curbing environmental hazards posed by illegal billboards obstructing views and causing accidents, especially at night.
In line with these efforts, the state Ministry of Environment has been directed to provide alternative solutions for refuse disposal, with a stern warning against indiscriminate dumping. The government’s commitment to a cleaner and safer environment remains a priority, encouraging collective participation in maintaining the beauty and hygiene of Adamawa State.
