As the festive season approaches, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State has issued a stern warning to vehicle owners and transporters, urging them to avoid reckless behaviors that could lead to tragic road accidents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The acting Sector Commandant, Bridget Asiku, emphasized the importance of adhering to safety measures to prevent loss of lives on the roads during this period. Specifically, Asiku cautioned against the use of expired or substandard tyres, highlighting the potential dangers that could result in a vehicle overturning.

Deputy Corps Commander Asiku outlined various factors contributing to road accidents, including over-speeding, alcohol consumption, overloading, failure to use seat belts, making and receiving phone calls while driving, impatience, and driving at night without proper lighting.

 

To enhance road safety during the Yuletide, the FRSC has deployed personnel strategically across key roads in Abia State. Asiku urged drivers to comply with traffic rules, pay attention to road signs, and take proactive steps such as installing speed limits on their vehicles.

 

The cautionary measures from the FRSC aim to create awareness and promote responsible driving habits, ensuring a safer and accident-free environment on the roads during the festive season.
