In a statement issued on Tuesday, Abdullahi Abbas, the Kano APC Chairman, expressed concern over the political uncertainty stemming from the awaited Supreme Court judgment on the disputed gubernatorial election. Abbas claimed that this uncertainty is driving the NNPP government to take unauthorized control of local government functions.

According to Abbas, the APC in Kano obtained a copy of a letter of conveyance of approval from the Ministry for Local Government, instructing the 44 local councils to release funds for the construction of Dan’Agundi and Tal’udu Interchanges. The amounts specified were N101,655,000.38 million and N3,607,370,858.00 million, respectively.

The alleged approval letter, sent to all council chairmen and copied to the Auditor-General of the state, local government audit, and all zonal inspectors of the Ministry, urged local councils to contribute to these projects.

Abbas cautioned both local government councils and commercial banks, urging them to halt the process of clearing the release of funds during this critical period of uncertainty surrounding the NNPP’s reliability.

Highlighting recent developments, the Kano APC chairman pointed out that the state government had recently replaced and reassigned Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) and treasurers, a move perceived as an attempt to eliminate hindrances to the alleged plot to embezzle local council funds.
