The decision to revoke the agreement was prompted by what the state government described as an “abysmal failure” on the part of Jabi Boat Club. The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Darlington Ijeh, expressed concern over the alleged non-performance of the company.

Ijeh issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Jabi Boat Club to provide a compelling reason for the state government not to terminate the contract.

A statement from the Director of Public Communication, Mrs. Theresa Oliko, clarified that the government had initially entered into the agreement with the private company in 2021 with the intention of revitalizing the facility and enhancing the state’s tourism sector.

With the concession agreement now revoked, the Directorate of Culture and Tourism is in the process of launching a fresh bidding process to engage a company with the capability to develop and manage the anchorage effectively, ultimately bringing greater benefits to the people of Delta State.

It’s worth noting that the original agreement stipulated that the firm would build, operate, and transfer (BOT) within a specified time frame, with operations slated to commence in 2023.

This report is developing, more details will be shared on the SkiwordNews Telegram Channel as soon as possible.
