Akpabio addressed this issue following reports of a heated exchange between himself and the Senate’s Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, on the Senate floor.

During a press interaction after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Senator Akpabio stated that the Senate comprises mature individuals dedicated to working with the Executive to advance the nation.

He said, “Sometimes you disagree to agree. We are all working in one accord. There is no problem at all. Even if some people disagree on some of the happenings in the Senate, still, it is only the majority decision that is going to prevail, and the parliament is like that.”

He emphasized that such disagreements would not escalate to the point of violence, as the Senate is composed of mature individuals who would promptly convene a closed session to resolve differences and continue working collaboratively.

Akpabio underscored the importance of maintaining the interest of the nation above all else, ensuring that the Senate is focused on supporting the President’s administration and advancing legislation and oversight functions to benefit the country.

The Senate President also informed the President about an upcoming 10th Assembly retreat in Akwa Ibom State, seeking his support for the event, which was readily provided.

He explained some of the topics to be discussed, including tax reform and revenue generation, aimed at serving the interests of the nation.

Akpabio additionally mentioned that the Senate would temporarily relocate to Akwa Ibom for four days due to the retreat and that he would be traveling to Angola to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which would further delay his return to Abuja to see the President.
