Senate President Akpabio reveals personal choice against smoking and drinking

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has openly shared the reasons behind his choice to abstain from smoking and drinking throughout his life.

Addressing attendees at the grand finale of the National Quiz Competition organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies for secondary school students in Enugu, Akpabio attributed his decision to parental guidance and awareness of the detrimental effects of such substances.

Akpabio emphasized the importance of aspiring to be visionary leaders and urged young individuals to avoid habits that could jeopardize their dreams and goals. Drawing from his personal experience, he stated, “In my own case, I have never smoked cigarettes or taken alcohol before. This is because, growing up, I listened to parental guidance.”

Recalling childhood memories, Akpabio recounted witnessing the negative impact of alcohol on individuals. “As a kid, I usually saw a man who would stagger on the road and fall into the gutters. I asked my mum, who told me it was because he was drunk. Some people would drink alcohol and drive home, while others would drink and drive to paradise,” he remarked.

The Senate President’s candid revelation serves as a testament to the influence of positive guidance and the awareness of the potential consequences associated with smoking and drinking.
