Corps operatives apprehended the suspects, known for their activities in damaging armoured wires and other electrical infrastructure, on November 4, 2023. The successful operation was a result of timely and credible intelligence provided by a vigilant resident of Awka.
Edwin Osuala, the State Commandant of NSCDC, paraded the arrested suspects in Awka, emphasizing that the arrest was made following a distress call received by the command. The call reported a group vandalizing armoured cable behind the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
The arrested individuals, all males, were identified as Monday Chukwu (37, from Ntezi, Ebonyi State), Okwudiri Nnaji (29, from Idodo, Nkanu East, Enugu State), Agu Ikechukwu (20, from Ehamufu, Isiuzo Local Government Area, Enugu State), and Chinecherem Idoho (from Uboloafor Udenu, Enugu State).

Commandant Osuala directed the Investigation and Intelligence Department to activate mechanisms to apprehend other suspects who may have fled the crime scene. He warned that those involved in the vandalism of power installations would face the full force of the law after a thorough investigation, with all suspects eventually brought to court. Osuala strongly condemned the activities of power installation vandals, referring to them as economic saboteurs.
