Specifically, the protesters called for urgent action to secure the release of the 24 female students from FUGUS and the four female students from FUDMA, who have been held captive by armed band#ts for over three months. Notably, seven students from the Federal University, Lafia (FULAFIA), Nasarawa State, who were abd¥cted four days ago, were recently released, bringing a glimpse of relief.

Under the banner of ‘Arewa Mufarka,’ meaning ‘Northerners let’s wake up,’ the protest aimed to draw attention to the prolonged captivity of these students and appeal for swift government intervention.

Addressing journalists in Kano, Sharfuddeen Bature, the convener of the protest, stated, “We have been on the matter for long. It has been eighty days now since the abd¥ction took place. We have ministers in our region – in Zamfara. We have the National Security Adviser, NSA, from our region. We need these girls back. Their parents are in serious condition. We are not going to stop doing this until they bring back our girls.”

The demonstrators also expressed condemnation for the recent tragedy in Tudun Biri community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where over 100 civilians were reportedly k#lled by Nigerian Army drones. The protest serves as a poignant call for action and collective responsibility to address the pressing issues affecting the safety and well-being of students and citizens in Northern Nigeria.
