Joyous scenes in Umuahia as Police confirm successful rescue of abd¥cted children and apprehend culprits

In a moment of jubilation, Umuahia, Abia State, experienced elation as the Abia State Police Command successfully rescued four children abd¥cted on December 16, 2023, from Ubakala Street, Ossah Road. The abd¥ction was reported by Mrs. Ifeanyi Udoma Ibe, who revealed that her children and those of her neighbors were taken by an unidentified tenant.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Maureen Chinaka, representing the Commissioner of Police, disclosed that the children were found and the suspect, Ifeoma Abonyi, was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State. The breakthrough resulted from a collaborative effort between the Abia Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS), utilizing robust technical intelligence.

The police statement revealed that six additional children were discovered in the custody of the arrested suspects. The statement affirmed the commitment of the police to a thorough investigation into the matter.

“We are happy to inform the public that all the four missing children stolen on 16 December 2023 have now been rescued. Two of the children were rescued on 22 December 2023, while another two were rescued today 24 December 2023.

“A total of eight suspects (five females and three males) are currently helping the police with the investigation into the crime.”

The police are actively pursuing three other individuals suspected of involvement in the crime who are currently at large.

The residents of Umuahia expressed their joy, terming the development a “Perfect Christmas” gift from God. Commending the Abia State Police Command for the positive outcome, residents anticipate further good news, hoping for the recovery of the first set of four kids stolen on November 27 by an unknown tricycle operator. The community remains hopeful, uniting in celebration of the successful rescue operation.
