In response to the adverse effects of climate change on agricultural yields, the Clement Isong Foundation, a Civil Society Organisation in Akwa Ibom State, has appealed to governments at all levels to furnish farmers with improved and resilient seed varieties. The call was made during a Budget and Climate Accountability townhall organized by the Foundation in collaboration with ActionAid and the Danish International Development Agency. The CSO emphasized that such assistance would instill confidence among farmers facing climate-related challenges. Additionally, the group urged governments to institute climate change amelioration and mitigation programs aimed at reducing farmers’ losses caused by the phenomenon. The communique also stressed the importance of addressing issues related to agricultural adaptation, emphasizing the need for prompt action and awareness creation within farming communities in Akwa Ibom State. The CSO proposed the establishment of quick response units across agricultural zones and local government areas, as well as the distribution of grants to individual farmers who have suffered losses. The overall goal is to ensure comprehensive support for farmers, considering both adaptation and mitigation strategies in the face of climate change.
